Nadal’s Defeat – a sign of decline or a driving force

I woke up this morning with nothing to look forward too. Roger was not playing today and I told myself that Nadal will win another clay match. I was feeding my a month old cousin and making roti’s but I went on to click on the link and watched free RG coverage online. I was shocked as soon as I saw the scores. Nadal was already a set down, something I would never imagine would happen and against a player who he just destroyed few weeks ago with straight set beat down. I was expecting a lot more spark between these two guys than it was there. I guess they have grown pass their previous feuds, though Soderling was winning a lot of points, he was modest over his victories. Even though I was shocked out of my mind, I knew that he was gonna win that match. But that was not to be, Soderling maintained his level the same and managed to break Rafa couple of more times and soon he has won the second set. Third set was very close but then again, I was sure Nadal was gonna take the tiebreak and finally it hit me that the biggest upset is in the making when it was slope sided during the tiebreaker with 5-1 on Soderling’s advantage. Nadal’s lost didn’t really sink in properly that time since I was preoccupied with household chores and with my cousin but then I realized what big of an upset it was due to the media response and forum where Nadalites are making excuses for his lost and others cherishing his lost and making weird predictions about Nadal for future.

About this time last year, When Federer was defending his title at Wimbledon, he made his challenger sweat like a mad dog to snatch that batch from him and gave all tennis fans an epic final match but it is totally different in Nadal’s case since he was also defending his title and was on his way to break the record with a five consecutive GR title. A lost in the 4th round is something which no one could have imagined or damned him in their wildest dreams. This goes to tell how good Federer is.
Nadal is a very respectable player and I have always held no grudge against him other than when he played against Federer. I saw him flat on the ground many times and that actually made me like him more since that showed his vulnerability and his human side. I give him full credit for accepting his defeat and making no excuses although he has mentioned after Madrid’s defeat in the final that that lost to Federer will in no ways hinder his chances of snatching his RG title yet again.

Now the biggest speculation is “With Nadal gone, will Federer be able to capitalize on this advantage and win the only title which has eluded him from a career grandslam and tie with Pete Sampras?” In my opinion, Federer is a guy with immense talent matched by no one and the only way to beat him would be psychologically, that’s why he has always had hard times beating Nadal and Murray. Though Murray is not a clay court threat but his mental pressure over Federer is surely a plus point for him. I dont see him going out before Finals. On his way to the final, his possible threats are Del potro (though Federer has an excellent record against him) and Tsonga. Unless he performs unbelievably poor, which is actually a concern regarding his performance in his first three round, his place for the final is set. With Rafa and DjokoBITCH gone, Murray is the only one with the game play to upset Roger but Murray’s place in the Final is quite debatable too.

On the whole if Roger fails to clinch the title, it would be a terrible lost to him and his fans.

Tennis World as of Now.

Let me start with the Question, “What’s up with all these hype about the boxing match between this English dude and filipino guy. I believe CNN is only one who bothered to care about this match” Anyways moving on, Rome Masters just concluded and despite so many hopeful predictions of his defeat, Nadal has managed to win his third Masters Series for the year out of four played so far. And that is a great feat. The way he is playing tennis so far is making me say comfortably that he might actually outperform Federer in term of Grand slams.

Next stop is Madrid and since its a clay court now, you can pretty much predict the champion there as well. As of now, Novak Djokovic is the closest someone who can challenge Nadal on clay, it was Federer last year but there has been a lot of emotional and personal changes been going on his life which is affecting his tennis but its definitely not the time to rule him out for a possible threat. Though number 2, he is at the edge as Murray and Djokovic are trailing little behind. But it seems it will take a bit longer for Murray to catch up since Djokovic has a bit advantage over him at clay and would have to wait till the grass season to create chances of pushing them behind. Nadal is way above any danger from losing his ranking since he is atleast 5000 points ahead of the second ranked. As long as clay season is concerned, you can think of only Federer, Novak and Nadal, the rest dont stand any chance of getting pass any of these guys. Last year around the time of RG, there was a lot of fuzz about Roger might take the French title this year but though he entered the Final, it was a wishful thinking to beat Nadal on his turf and it seems his chances are further than last years and even getting to the final will be a tough nut to crack but you know Federer, he brings his bests at the Slams, so we can expect some Wonders from Federer.

Anyways, this is nothing sort of any analytical writing or anything. I just wanted to write something and I did, just to relieve myself.

Undergraduate in India

Last time I remember talking about Indian colleges, I don’t think it was called Undergraduate. And I think it has started to follow the semester pattern. I think it is a good step towards globalization and making it easier for the NRIs and foreign students to come to India and study. I think India should try its best to attract as much international students as possible and should give priority to a student’s capability rather than preferring someone with a degree outside India.

Private schools are not to the par of Government Schools in India and that’s why I think India should do its best to improve of the quality of life and facilities in these Indian universities.

With the rising acceptance of MBA students in international market, the MBA students are ever increasing and harder to get in the Business schools that really promise the juicy paychecks after graduation. The recent news of XLRI attaining a 100% placement is an exemplary case.
India should now start abolishing the system of entrance exams because kids just after 12th grades are too young to decide what they want or rather they should have the flexibility to change their field of study whenever they want within the first two years since the beginning of college.
As of now I don’t know of any engineering colleges which doesn’t accept students without giving entrance exams. These entrance exams are a drain for creativity among Indian Students. Sometimes I think that all these hectic processes to get in engineering colleges are what attracts these Indian Students who are there to show their academic excellence and not because they are absolutely interested in the field. We need diversity in our students. I dont think the purpose of education in India is to make them capable enough to brain drain them later. We are actually supporting our own downfall in our prosperity. We are supplying these already developed country with our best minds. There fore I think the entry into these engineering colleges should be easier than it is now. In United states students have to pay the same amount within a college no matter what field they are majoring in and that’s one of the defects in the Indian education system. But it is also true that students of creativity in our society don’t have much prosperity later in their future because India doesn’t have that many creativity oriented works. Bollywood is definitely not a creative part of Indian society as long as creativity is concerned. Actors are not at all free to choose their work and there is always the commercial factor leading them to do work which are mostly larger than life experience but no thought provoking works.

There are so many part of Indian University system that needs reformation and until then, complete development is impossible.
